Lew Allen started out as a photographer for his high school newspaper. In 1956 he made his break, when Elvis performed at the Cleveland Arena whilst the city’s three newspapers were on strike. Allen was the only photographer present and documented the show with his large format 5x4 Crown Graphic camera. Allen’s work has been exhibited internationally as well as featuring on television documentaries for VH1 and BBC. His work was published in “Rolling Stone Images of Rock & Roll”, 1995 and, his complete portfolio in “Elvis and the Birth of Rock.”
