What started as a hobby, photographing the likes of The Rolling Stones and Pink Floyd at the Lyceum, Genesis and Led Zeppelin at the Marquee and following The Nice around the country, sleeping in railway stations, turned into something different, by accident, in June 1973. Being the only photographer at Paul Simon’s first solo concert in the UK at The Royal Albert Hall his pictures were used in all the music press. Now, taking his hobby seriously, he became a freelance photographer, eventually joining Sounds from 1975 to1980, having some of the first pictures published of The Damned, Elvis Costello, The Jam, The Clash and even The Police, when they were still only a backing band. He toured with Phil Collins and Peter Gabriel covering their first reunion gig in Paris, in front of a million people.
